Open University

Open University provides an opportunity for people who are not currently admitted to CSULB to enroll in courses offered by the university during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Effective Fall 2018, students registering through Open University no longer need instructor and department approval to add a class. However, if prerequisites are required and/or the class is full, you will need to obtain approval. Please view the options underneath How to Register on the left-side menu, and choose the appropriate registration method for your course.

In addition, students who enrolled either in Spring 2018 or Summer 2018 can use self-service registration. Please click on the Self-Service Registration left-side menu item for step-by-step instructions.

If you are interested in taking classes during Winter Sessions, please visit the Winter Sessions website.

The Open University course fee is $315 per unit. There is also a $5 mandatory ID fee each term.

FALL 2018: Registration begins Monday, August 27 (the first day of classes for this semester). The last day to enroll is Monday, September 24, 2018.

Students enrolling through Open University will receive academic credit. Students may apply up to 24 units of this credit toward an undergraduate degree. At the option of the appropriate college and department, up to 9 units of academic credit may be applied toward a graduate degree.
