Open University

Open University provides an opportunity for people who are not currently admitted to CSULB to enroll in courses offered by the university during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Students registering through Open University no longer need instructor and department approval to add a class. However, if prerequisites are required and/or the class is full, you will need to obtain approval. Please view the options underneath How to Register on the left-side menu, and choose the appropriate registration method for your course.

In addition, students who enrolled in any term from Summer 2019 through Winter 2020 can use self-service registration. Please click on the Self-Service Registration left-side menu item for step-by-step instructions.

Self-service registration for Spring Open University will be available from January 21 to early February 2020. After self-service registration ends, all registrations must be completed at the CPIE registration windows (located at the west end of the Foundation Building, 6300 East State University Drive, Long Beach, 90815).

Students enrolling through Open University will receive academic credit. Students may apply up to 24 units of this credit toward an undergraduate degree at CSULB. At the option of the appropriate college and department, up to 9 units of academic credit may be applied toward a graduate degree at CSULB.

The Open University course fee is $315 per unit. There is also a $5 mandatory ID fee each term.
